Time flies when you are having fun. I must be having too much fun because it has been a long time since I have written a blog post. That does not mean that I have not been updating the site because I have, just not the blog. Like I have said elsewhere I am not a writer and so it takes a lot of energy to sit down and write something that is worth your time to read. But now I am on a roll and will first work on catching up on the more than 200 links that I have collected and not posted yet. Then I plan to bring current the Adventures in Progress section. Assuming I get that all done before I run out of energy, I will then start blogging more and do some tweaks to the site. As I have been told on numerous occasions this site is a "gold mine of information" which is as intended from the start.
Please keep coming back, tell your friends, link me on your web page and have safe and thrilling adventures. -johnny

First, I am retired and so I have a lot of time to do what I like to do and I like to read and watch cruising videos. Second, I live in Arizona where June, July and August are usually 100+ outside, 74 inside. Guess where I stay? Third, I am interested in boats and cruising, not only the boats and the gear but also the tales of those who are out there adventuring. Many of the people on the blogs I follow almost seem like friends that I have known for a long time. Fourth, I subscribe to almost 600 YouTube channels and read lots of blogs every day. (I also have a wife and a life besides.) Less than 10% of the blogs or vlogs I read or view are listed on this site, so I would say that I have culled the sites by topic to those that seem to me are the most relevant. As I have said elsewhere, I am not selling anything but I like to share the "good stuff" in an effort to give back, especially to those just starting. I hope that via the links on this site the reader gets educated and quickly finds a lot of other sites and resources that they can connect with.
To find new links I do a few common things, such as when I visit a blog I checkout the various pages looking for that site's list of sites they follow, and then I check them out. With YouTube I go to the channel's home page and on the right side there are lists of "Popular Channels" and I investigate those I am not subscribed to. YouTube also "Recommends" sites to visit. If I have not already subscribed, then I check them out and subscribe if they are currently active and look interesting. I also use "Sailing Channels" ( https://sailing-channels.com ) which lists all the current channels concerning sailing and cruising to find new videos. I do have other interests besides boats, so I often find relevant sites which I think may be of interest to this site's audience. It has been a while since I did a count, but there are probably around 2000 links currently on this site. I try to update about once every two weeks more or less with over a hundred links added in the last couple of days. BTW - I am always looking for comments on interesting sites to add, new blogs, new topics as well as other positive feedback, so let me know what you think. I am not a writer. Really I am not. I can write, obviously, but I struggle at it. So writing a blog on a regular basis will be a challenge, a real challenge. But I will try to do so. Another challenge is what to say. I am not sailing the seven seas. I am not fixing boat things in exotic places. Shoot, I don't even live close to a decent size lake. So what can I blog about?
Having thought about it for a while, the only relevant items would be comments, opinions and so on about boat or adventuring blogs that I find of interest. So that is my plan. Make a list of boat things and adventures that I find interesting and share with you all . Hello World My name is Johnny, I retired a few years ago, got bored and started spending endless hours on the internet searching and reading about all things boats. I also started to fantasize about places to visit, by boat of course. And not just any boat but by my dream boat, which has changed a couple of times, ( hey it is my fantasy ). Currently my dream boat is an Antares 44i. At this time in my life most of my adventures are via blogs and videos of sailing families and solo adventurers, except for the occasional cruise on a big ship. There really is no physical boat in my future for many reasons. So I will leave that there. As with most people that have spent a lot of time on the internet, I have collected over a thousand links and have probably visited ten times that many sites. Last week I started thinking, in the spirit of Christmas, about giving back. That is when I came up with this wild idea of: why not pay forward to those who will be wanting to adventure on a boat in the future. They need a place to start learning about boats and I have a thousand links that could help them actually make their dream come true. Why not start a site to help orient them and jump start them with their dream of adventuring on a boat? So I plunked down some money, bought this domain and started writing and categorizing my links. I still have a bunch to go but my new adventure begins, I'm thinking of calling what I'm doing; "desktop sailing" or "laptop adventuring" or "mobile circumnavigation" or ??? |
